Farm Practices

We treat our soil and animals with kindness and reverence. Together, we are building a landscape that captures more carbon and is more climate resilient.

Gardens
We follow and far exceed organic practices: we don’t spray anything, generate our own compost, and use regenerative, no-till practices. We limit the use of any plastics, and use almost zero single use plastic.
Laying hens
Our chickens forage on pasture for grazing season, and live in a spacious barn with outside access through the winter. We feed locally-made non-GMO grain and organic vegetable scraps year round. Our flock is managed without any antibiotics or supplements.
Cows & sheep
We shade-graze our sheep and cows, and are establishing more acres of silvopasture annually to promote animal and soil health. All our beef and lamb is farm-born and farm-slaughtered.

Community minded

Our distribution is focussed on connecting our farm grown food with local community members.
CSA
We provide pay-what-you-can CSA membership and partner with NOFA-VT’s Farm Share Program to expand share access to those with need.

Food distribution
We partner with local schools and food distribution efforts to offer local bulk eggs and produce to patrons year round, and provide free shares for seniors through NOFA’s Senior Share Program.
Partners include: Feeding the Valley Alliance, Park House, Stockbridge Free Community Meals To Go, Stockbridge School

Retail partners
We supply locally owned small businesses with bulk eggs and produce. Local purchasing options offer high quality, lower-mileage, low-climate impact food, while keeping food dollars local!
Partners include: Kiss the Cow Farm, Pembroke Bakery, South Royalton Market, Third Branch Coffee, Woodstock Inn, Woodstock Farmers Market

For all to access

Birdsong Farm believes we can all contribute to a thriving community, in which folks support one another in growing and eating local food. We offer pay-what-you-can CSA shares and turn no one away, a radical act of mutual aid and community building. Pay-what-you-can means that if you can pay more, you do, and if you need support, you pay less. Together, we are building a compassionate, resilient local community.

We are excited to be able to accept SNAP/EBT/3SquaresVT!
